ACLU tries to ban Easter cross in PA
Reading, Pennsylvania, is ruffling some feathers with an Easter cross shining from a city-owned tower.
Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of the Liberty University Law School, tells OneNewsNow they are hearing from the usual sources. ”The ACLU has sent threatening letters, [as has] a humanist organization, saying that they need to not allow this cross in this tower because it violates — in their view — the separation of church and state, which absolutely is bogus,” he explains.
The attorney adds that the cross is a long tradition and ought to continue. ”There is clearly no prohibition against acknowledging certain kinds of holidays and themes,” Staver contends, “and simply because it’s a religious holiday like Easter or Christmas doesn’t mean that a city or any government is disabled from honoring that holiday.”
Staver goes on to say that if the ACLU or the atheist organizations have their way, religion — but particularly Christianity — would literally be wiped away from America’s tradition and history. Liberty Counsel has offered to represent the city free-of-charge if a lawsuit is filed.
